Dry Hair: Causes & Remedies

Dry Hair: Causes & Remedies

Dry hair is one of the most common hair problems, no matter your hair type, length, or texture. The causes of dry hair can vary, and how to fix dry hair will be different for everyone based on several factors. Whatever the root of the problem, the solution all comes down to how to care for your hair properly. Continue reading to find out what could be causing your dry hair and our solutions!

DRY HAIR CAUSES

The Weather

Let's examine the most prevalent, and occasionally most ignored factor: the weather, and particularly the air. As the air becomes drier as the temperature drops, it can deprive your hair of moisture and, tragically, make it feel more brittle, and vulnerable to split ends.

How You Wash Your Hair

If you wash your hair often, you may wonder "Why is my hair still so dry?" Dry hair is caused by lack of moisture and many will try and remedy this by washing the hair more frequently. Over-washing your will strip it of its natural oils, making it less shiny and much more dry. While it may seem counterintuitive, try to reduce the amount you wash your hair to see if this improves its condition.

Heat Styling Tools

Hair dryers, curlers, and straighteners when used too often can lead to dry hair, breakage, and damage. If you’re susceptible to dry hair, breakage or split ends, lay off the heat. We completely understand it's not possible for many to cut out heat styling tools all together, and that's totally okay! Try to only use heat tools when absolutely necessary, and always apply a heat protectant.

Chemical Based Products

Sulfates, parabens, and silicones are aggressive chemicals that can be extremely drying to your hair over time. These chemicals slowly strip away all your hair and scalp of its natural oils. Overtime, your hair will weaken, and end up looking dull, and become very prone to damage, breakage, and split ends.
