5 Things To Quit Doing To Your Hair

5 Things To Quit Doing To Your Hair

Have you ever wondered if your habits are helping or hurting your hair? We've got you! We have broken down the 5 things that you should quit doing to your hair in order to let your hair grow and scalp thrive!

1. Not Using A Wooden Brush

The bristles in plastic brushes can cause unnecessary ripping, tearing and damage to the hair, preventing it from growing to its full potential. The bristles in many wooden brushes (particularly our TEK Brushes & Combs) are surprisingly soft, smooth and free from any sharp corners that risk ripping your precious hair out as you brush. When switching to a wooden hair brush, you will experience far less snagging and hair breakage, which in turn results in healthier hair.

2. Wearing Tight Hairstyles Often

Do you love an up-do? If the hair is pulled back too tightly, it can break away from its roots, which may result in splitting, hair weakness, and follicle damage. We suggest switching your high ponytail to a loose braid, or swapping your hair tie for a claw clip!

3. Rubbing Your Hair Dry

Rubbing your hair dry can not only result in excessive frizz, but it causes damage to both the root of your hair and the hair shaft. Rather than rubbing and ripping your hair to shreds, we suggest gently patting it dry. If you want to take things up a notch, we also suggest swapping your usual hair towel for a dry t-shirt or smaller microfibre towel!

4. Not Using a Natural Heat Protectant

When you expose your hair to heat every time you style your hair without protection, it can lead to hair damage. Heat can dry out your strands, cause split ends and breakage, and make your hair look dull, among other issues. We always suggest applying a natural heat protectant such as our Argan Oil to your hair before stying!

5. Using Too Many Products With Silicones

While silicones do not pose a threat to our physical health, they can seriously damage the hair over time. Experts say that the real issue with silicones is that they cause build up on the hair, and create a residue that blocks moisture from getting into the hair shaft. Over time, your hair not only appears dull, but it gets dehydrated and weak from a lack of moisture. This can impair all of your hard work put into achieving shiny, hydrated hair. The good news? All of our products are proudly silicone-free, so that your hair can thrive!

Most importantly, the key ingredient to healthy hair is patience. By getting rid of undesirable habits, and replacing them with new ones, you will notice your hair and scalp starting to thrive in no time!
